Imagine this: You are in the final circle in BGMI. It is a 1v1 situation. You spot the enemy, you open your scope, you pull the trigger... and suddenly your screen freezes for a split second. Next thing you know, you are dead. You look at your screen and your ping has jumped to 400ms.

If you play games on an Airtel network and face high ping or bullet registry issues, you are not alone. While Airtel is actually one of the fastest networks for downloading files, their default gaming routes can sometimes be terrible. Let's fix your lag once and for all with the best settings for 2026.

Quick tip before we start: If your phone keeps jumping between 4G and 5G while you are playing, it will ruin your ping no matter what DNS you use. Check out our trick to stop your phone from dropping to 4G first.

WHY DOES PING SPIKE SO HIGH?

Ping (or Latency) is not about download speed. It is about reaction time. It is the time it takes for your phone to send a bullet shot to the BGMI server in Mumbai, and for the server to reply saying "Hit".

If your phone connects to a bad local tower, or if Airtel sends your gaming data through a crowded, long route, that trip takes longer. That delay is what you feel as lag or desync. To fix this, we need to force your phone to take the shortest, fastest route to the game server.

TRICK 1: CHANGE YOUR PRIVATE DNS (BEST METHOD)

By default, your phone uses Airtel's own DNS server to find the internet. Usually, this server is very crowded. By changing your phone to Cloudflare's gaming-optimized DNS, you can easily drop your ping by 20 to 30ms.

How to Setup Gaming DNS:

  1. Go to your phone Settings.
  2. Tap on Network & Internet (or Connections).
  3. Search for Private DNS.
  4. Select the "Private DNS provider hostname" option.
  5. Type exactly this: 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com
  6. Save it and restart your game.

Note: If you have an iPhone, you can download the "1.1.1.1" app from the App Store to do the exact same thing.

TRICK 2: THE AIRTEL GAMING APN

If the DNS trick did not get your ping below 40ms, the next step is creating a fresh APN profile. This gives your SIM card a brand new, clean pathway to the internet.

Create a New APN

Go to Settings > Mobile Networks > Airtel SIM > Access Point Names. Add a new APN with these exact details:

  • Name: Airtel Gaming
  • APN: airtelgprs.com
  • Server: www.google.com
  • APN Type: default,supl
  • APN Protocol: IPv4
  • Bearer: LTE, NR (Select both if you have 5G)

Save the profile, select it, and turn Airplane mode on and off to activate it.

TRICK 3: THE IN-GAME ROUTINE REPAIR

Sometimes the Airtel network is completely fine, but your game files are messed up after a recent update. When you open BGMI, don't log in immediately. On the right side of the login screen, click the Repair button. Select "Routine Repair" and hit OK.

This will delete old corrupted cache files and download a fresh 20MB update. Many players report that this instantly fixes bullet registry issues and random frame drops.

FAQ:-

Why is my ping good in TDM but bad in Erangel?

TDM matches happen on smaller server instances that handle very few players and vehicles. Erangel maps require your phone to download the location data of 100 players constantly. If your Airtel connection drops packets, you will only notice the lag in classic matches.

Does using a VPN lower my ping?

No. Using a VPN actually increases your ping because your data has to travel to the VPN server first before going to the game server. Never use a VPN for playing BGMI in India; it can also get your account banned.

Why does my ping jump to 900ms randomly?

This happens when another app on your phone (like WhatsApp or Google Photos) suddenly starts downloading a backup in the background. To stop this, go to your phone settings and restrict background data for heavy apps while you play.
