You wake up in the morning, make your tea, and sit down to start your work from home. But your laptop refuses to connect to the internet. You walk over to your Hathway Wi-Fi router, and instead of the happy green lights, you see an angry red light blinking continuously.

WHAT DOES THE RED "LOS" LIGHT MEAN?
LOS stands for Loss of Signal. Your Hathway router (which is actually called an ONT device) receives internet through a physical laser light traveling inside the thin wire coming from outside your house.
When the LOS light flashes red, your router is screaming: "I cannot see the laser light anymore!"
This means the physical connection between the Hathway main server and your home router has been broken. It is a physical hardware problem, not a software glitch.
HOW TO FIX THE RED LIGHT (3 QUICK CHECKS)
Before you wait on hold for 30 minutes with Hathway customer care, check these three things inside your house first:
1. Check the Yellow Patch Cord for Bends
Look at the thin wire (usually yellow or white) going into the back of your router. This is a fiber optic cable. Inside that plastic cover, there is actual, delicate glass. If someone cleaned the table and bent that wire sharply into a "V" shape, the glass inside will break, and the laser light cannot travel through it.
Make sure the wire is completely straight or rests in a very loose, gentle circle.
2. Push the Green Connector Gently
At the end of the yellow wire, there is usually a square green (or blue) connector plugged into the router. Sometimes, dust gets in, or it becomes slightly loose. Gently push it in until you hear a tiny click.
Warning: Do not pull it out and touch the white tip with your fingers. The oil from your skin will block the laser light permanently!
3. The 30-Second Reboot
If the wire looks perfectly fine, unplug the power adapter of the router from the wall socket. Count slowly to 30, and then plug it back in. Sometimes, the router just fails to read the signal properly and a hard reboot forces it to sync with the local Hathway exchange again.
